From Kerugoya Streets to Heavenly Thrones: The Full Story of My Spiritual Calling
Introduction
My name is Teddy Waiyaki Saiteye. I am a deaf and non-verbal Christian writer from Kenya. My journey has taken me from the quiet streets of Kerugoya to a life devoted to writing about faith, hope, and the spiritual experiences that have shaped my life. What began as a childhood marked by silence has become a testimony of God's grace, purpose, and faithfulness.
For many years, I wondered why my life was so different from that of other people. I could not hear conversations or express myself through spoken words. At times I felt isolated, misunderstood, and uncertain about my future. Yet through every challenge, God was quietly preparing me for a calling I could not yet understand.
This article shares my personal testimony of that journey—from my childhood in Kenya to the spiritual experiences that strengthened my faith and inspired me to become a writer. My prayer is that my story encourages anyone who feels limited by disability, family circumstances, or life's difficulties to trust that God is still working.
The Beginning in Kerugoya
I was born into a humble family in Kenya. My father, Alfred Saiteye, comes from the Taveta (Taita) community, while my mother, Susan Wangari, lovingly cared for me during my childhood. Although I did not grow up with my father, my mother worked hard to raise me and encourage me despite many challenges.
Growing up in Kerugoya was not always easy. Being deaf and non-verbal meant that I experienced the world differently from those around me. While others communicated through speech, I learned to communicate through observation, expressions, and sign language.
Even as a child, I enjoyed sports. Running became one of my greatest passions. During school competitions, I discovered that I could run with remarkable speed. At one national competition in Maseno, people remarked that I seemed to move like lightning across the track. Although I appreciated those compliments, I remained a quiet and humble person who preferred not to seek attention.
Looking back today, I realize that those early years taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, patience, and humility.
Growing in Faith at School
My education continued at Rev. Muhoro Secondary School for the Deaf in Nyeri. There I met other deaf students who understood many of the same challenges I faced.
The school became much more than a place of learning. It became a community where I developed confidence, discipline, and friendships.
One memory remains especially meaningful to me. During Senator Barack Obama's 2006 visit to Kenya, an American teacher connected with our school and later shared that she had spoken about the students. Receiving encouragement connected with that visit inspired me to believe that even a deaf student from Kenya could dream beyond his circumstances.
During those years, my Christian faith also continued to grow. I believed that God knew me personally and had created me with purpose. Although I did not yet understand what that purpose would become, I trusted that He was guiding my life.
The Turning Point: My Near-Death Experience
The greatest turning point in my life came in 2012.
While living in Nairobi, I became seriously ill with severe heart pain and intense headaches. One night my condition became so serious that I collapsed.
What happened next changed my life forever.
During that experience, I believed my spirit entered a heavenly realm filled with overwhelming peace, brilliant light, and the presence of God. Everything I encountered seemed more real than anything I had experienced on earth.
In that spiritual experience, I understood that an angel communicated with me through sign language. Because sign language is my primary form of communication, this was deeply meaningful to me. During this encounter, I believed I received encouragement about God's purpose for my life and the work He was calling me to accomplish.
I also experienced standing in the presence of Jesus Christ and Jehovah God. Although human words cannot fully describe what I experienced, I returned from that encounter with a renewed faith and a deep conviction that my life still had purpose.
Despite the beauty and peace of that experience, I desired to return because I believed my work on earth was not yet complete.
When I regained consciousness, my family was amazed that I had recovered. For me, this experience marked the beginning of a completely new chapter in my spiritual journey.
Visions That Strengthened My Faith
After 2012, I continued to experience moments of prayer and reflection that strengthened my faith.
Some of these experiences included symbolic visions that encouraged me to remain faithful to God's calling. In one vision, I saw myself standing above Nairobi while heaven opened and angels moved with scrolls of light. To me, this represented God's reminder that my season of preparation was leading toward a greater purpose.
In another deeply personal vision, I saw a Queen clothed in radiant white. I understood this vision as representing faithfulness, partnership, hope, and God's promises. I also saw magnificent thrones that reminded me that every true position of honor comes from God rather than human achievement.
Another part of this vision included what I understood as a generational promise. It reminded me that God's work extends beyond one lifetime and that faith can influence future generations in ways we may never fully understand.
These experiences remain personal expressions of my faith and continue to inspire my writing today.
From Silence to a Digital Voice
Perhaps one of the greatest miracles in my life has been discovering that silence does not prevent communication.
Because I cannot speak with my voice, I learned to communicate through writing.
Every article I publish, every testimony I write, and every book I complete has become part of the voice God has given me.
Technology has opened remarkable opportunities. Through my blog, books, and social media, readers from Kenya, the United States, the United Kingdom, and many other countries have been able to read my testimony.
The keyboard has become my microphone.
What many people once viewed as my greatest limitation has become one of my greatest strengths.
Through writing, I have learned that words have the power to encourage people I may never meet face to face.
Lessons God Has Taught Me
As I reflect on my journey, several lessons continue guiding my life.
First, disability does not prevent God from fulfilling His purpose.
Second, seasons of silence often become seasons of preparation.
Third, every difficult experience can become part of a testimony that encourages someone else.
Fourth, waiting on God develops patience, humility, and deeper faith.
Finally, I have learned that God's plans are always greater than my own understanding.
Although I cannot predict every step of the future, I know that He has remained faithful throughout every chapter of my life.
Looking Ahead
Today I continue writing, publishing, and sharing my testimony with readers around the world.
My goal is not simply to tell extraordinary stories but to point people toward hope, faith, and the love of God.
Every new article is another opportunity to encourage someone who feels discouraged.
Every testimony is another reminder that God can bring purpose from pain.
Every word I write is an expression of gratitude for the grace He has shown throughout my journey.
Final Encouragement
If you feel limited by disability, family struggles, rejection, disappointment, or uncertainty, I want to encourage you.
Your present circumstances do not define your future.
God often prepares people in quiet places before leading them into greater opportunities. He sees your struggles, hears your prayers, and knows the dreams He has placed within your heart.
My journey from the streets of Kerugoya to a life of writing and sharing my faith has convinced me that no obstacle is too great for God's purpose.
Continue trusting Him.
Continue walking faithfully.
Continue sharing the gifts He has given you.
Your story is still being written, and the chapters ahead may reveal blessings greater than you can imagine.
Thank you for taking the time to read my testimony. If this story has encouraged you, I would love to hear your own journey of faith in the comments. May we continue encouraging one another as we walk toward the purpose God has prepared for our lives.
